Donaven McCulley
Michigan
Scouting Report

McCulley is a projection-over-production bet — a converted quarterback with tantalizing size at 6-4½ and 10¼-inch hands who wins at the catch point by high-pointing and boxing out defenders in a phone booth. His route tree is still narrow after only three years at the position, and he simply doesn't have the burst or long speed to threaten vertically or separate in man coverage against NFL corners. But the contested-catch ability is legit, the zone instincts are advanced for a late convert, and the Senior Bowl showing against better competition was encouraging. If a team with a vertical passing attack and patient development staff gets him, there's a Devin Funchess-lite ceiling; if not, the floor is a camp body who can't get open.

Pro ComparisonDevin Funchess

Similar body type (6-4+, long-limbed), catch-point dominance, red zone utility, and limited separation ability. Like Funchess, McCulley wins with size and physicality rather than speed or route craft, projecting as a big-body possession receiver who needs scheme context to produce.
