Romello Brinson
SMU
Scouting Report

Long-striding vertical threat who can run under deep balls and track them naturally over his shoulder, but there isn't much else in the toolbox right now. Brinson's route tree is limited to go-balls, posts, and occasional crossers — he wins when he gets behind coverage, but his underdeveloped releases and below-average short-area quickness prevent him from consistently separating underneath. The 37.5% contested catch rate per PFF is a glaring red flag for a 6-2 receiver who should be winning more 50/50 balls, and his production across five college seasons never broke out despite flashing every few games. This is a pure projection bet — the physical frame and deep speed are there, but Brinson needs a patient coaching staff willing to build him from the ground up as a Day 3 developmental piece.

Pro ComparisonDonovan Peoples-Jones

Similar athletic profile — long, lean deep threat with speed but inconsistent production and hands in college. Peoples-Jones was a highly recruited prospect who never put it together at Michigan, was drafted in the 6th round, and carved out an NFL role as a vertical/complementary piece. Brinson's trajectory and skill set track closely to that archetype.
